Please call your midwife straight away if you have any of the followings symptoms
- A severe headache that does not go away with paracetamol and rest
- Blurry vision, double vision, or seeing spots, stars, or flashes of light
- Difficulty breathing
- Pain in your upper abdomen on the right side, or shoulder tip pain
- Baby not moving as much as usual
- New-onset nausea or vomiting in later pregnancy, or feeling generally unwell
- Sudden weight gain (more than 1kg in a week)
- Sudden, new swelling in your face or hands
These can indicate that you have severe pre-eclampsia, and need immediate investigation.
Signs that your midwife will watch out for
- High blood pressure
- Protein in your urine
If these happen in your pregnancy, then your midwife will order blood and urine tests to confirm pre-eclampsia, and refer you to the obstetric team.
