You’re beginning to feel movements and grow a bit of a bump – how exciting!
Midwifery visits in this period continue to be every month or so, and at each we will check your blood pressure and check your urine for protein and glucose. These are important screening tests to watch for pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes.
What tests will be offered?
- Either screening or diagnostic testing for gestational diabetes, depending on your risk factors, at 26-28 weeks
- Subsequent antenatal blood tests, primarily to check your iron stores, at the same time as gestational diabetes testing
- Abdominal palpation and measurement, to check baby’s position and growth. Measurements begin at 26-28 weeks, unless you have a risk factor that means you should have growth ultrasounds. For more information, see my page on foetal growth and GROW charts
