So you’re out of the first trimester and hopefully starting to feel less nauseous! The second trimester is usually easier on your body than the first and third trimesters.
Midwifery visits during this period are usually every month or so, and at each we will go over the results of any lab tests and scans you have had, any that are offered in the next month, and any other information you may need.
What tests will be offered?
- An anatomy scan, a top-to-toe checkup of your baby’s body
- A second trimester serum screen, if you did not have the first trimester combined screening and would still like to screen for chromosomal anomalies
- Any follow up tests that are indicated from your earlier blood tests or combined screening
What else will we discuss?
- Any extra supplementation you may be advised to have based on your booking blood tests
- A reminder about pelvic floor exercises and general healthy eating and exercise in pregnancy
- How to wear a seatbelt with your growing belly
- Options for safe car travel for your baby
- Vaginal discharge – what is normal in pregnancy
- Vaccinations offered in pregnancy
- When to expect your first movements
